1 in 8 Households Need Food Assistance
Here’s How We Help
What We Do
The Community Foodbank at FBC provides a hot meal for people in the community on Tuesday evenings and on Fridays at lunch. On Fridays the Community Foodbank also gives out grocery items to those who need them. No ID is required.
While our numbers do fluctuate, we serve approximately 120-150 people on Tuesdays and between 60-85 people every Friday.
If you are in need of assistance, please come to the Community Food Bank on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 to 6:00 and on Fridays from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.
Our History
Community Foodbank at First Baptist Church has been successfully operating since January 1999. In response to the growing needs in our community, in 2021 we started serving dinner on Tuesday’s as well. Tuesday dinners regularly come with a workshop that focusses on crafts, financial training, mental health assistance and more.
Why We Exist
As a church located in downtown Timmins, we are well-acquainted with the needs of our community and the need continues to grow. With the high cost of living and increased food costs due to inflation, a report from Feed Ontario shows that food bank use has increased by 38 per cent in the last year. Without local food banks, many would go without.
