1 in 8 Households Need Food Assistance

Here’s How We Help

What We Do

The Community Foodbank at FBC provides a hot meal for people in the community on Tuesday evenings and on Fridays at lunch. On Fridays the Community Foodbank also gives out grocery items to those who need them. No ID is required.

While our numbers do fluctuate, we serve approximately 120-150 people on Tuesdays and between 60-85 people every Friday.

If you are in need of assistance, please come to the Community Food Bank on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 to 6:00 and on Fridays from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.

Our History

Community Foodbank at First Baptist Church has been successfully operating since January 1999. In response to the growing needs in our community, in 2021 we started serving dinner on Tuesday’s as well. Tuesday dinners regularly come with a workshop that focusses on crafts, financial training, mental health assistance and more.

Why We Exist

As a church located in downtown Timmins, we are well-acquainted with the needs of our community and the need continues to grow. With the high cost of living and increased food costs due to inflation, a report from Feed Ontario shows that food bank use has increased by 38 per cent in the last year. Without local food banks, many would go without.

Here’s How You Can Help

Give A One-Time or Monthly Donation To The Food Bank

Help us to eliminate hunger in our community by donating to the Food Bank. Every dollar you donate goes to feed those in our community or provides support of the Food Bank and qualifies as a charitable tax donation.

Become A Community Partner

Our Community Partners help us to ensure that we can continue to provide healthy, nutritious food to those who need it most, all year round. Whether you are an business, or organization, your monthly partnership will go a long way in helping us to serve the community.

Volunteer

If you would like to volunteer to help set up and prep for our Friday meals, please drop by Thursday anytime between 4:15 and 6:00 pm. No notice required, just come by. We are also in need of cooks to join our food teams. Teams serve for one week per month. Reach out to us to learn more.

Thank You!

We wish to thank Food Banks Canada for their generous provision of a “2023 Access Grant”.

The previous entrance did not have automatic door operators on it, so access required that some persons attending our food bank waited outside in all kinds of weather until someone opened it for them. Also, security and safety were not ensured because of the previous access configuration. The new entrance, to better serve visitors to our foodbank, now has wheelchair accessible doors with automatic door operators and provides for both security and accessibility. The addition of windows has also improved access for persons with visual impairment as well as the general health and safety of all persons using the entrance in the future.

Thank You Food Banks Canada for making this possible!
