Roles and Expectations: Youth Ministry

One Eighty and Regen Youth Night
• Be at the meeting location (sometimes the church, other times a park in the city somewhere) by 6:15pm for a leader prayer meeting and stay until the last youth has been picked up by their parents (8:30-9pm). During June-August, Youth Group events run from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
• Be intentional about connecting with the youth who come, seeking to build relationships with them. When not actively engaged with the youth, mingle with the group and be intentionally present as a supervisor who is ready to redirect bad behavior in a positive direction. Again, the youth are the focus, and leaders need to ensure not to be giving attention to other leaders and ignoring the youth, or off –independently, ignoring everyone. Be involved!
• Occasionally the Youth Pastor will call upon an intern to share their testimony with the youth. Be prepared to share or help lead a game for a specific Youth Group event. For those events, spend the necessary time preparing in advance.

Youth Group Campout in June
• Beforehand: assist the Youth Pastor in securing the needed supplies (tents, food, etc.), planning games/activities, and arranging rides for teens who need them.
• During the campout, always be ready to help with whatever is happening: setting up/taking down tents, setting out food, cleaning up, etc.

Regen Youth Adventure Week

• Each day, be at the meeting location (the church, a park, Hersey Lake, etc.) a minimum of 15 minutes early for a leader prayer meeting and stay until the last youth has been picked up by their parents. The length of the program may vary from day to day, so pay close attention to the schedule and plan attendance accordingly.

Roles and Responsibilities: Kids Church

Sunday morning Kids Church Program
• Beforehand: assist the Kids Ministry director in planning the summer lessons and purchasing any necessary items for the snack and craft each Sunday morning. Ensure that all the necessary items are ready to go before Sunday. Spend time in prayer each week for the kids and volunteers of First Baptist Church.
• On Sunday morning:
– Be at the church no later than 9:30am for work
– Lead the group of volunteers in prayer.
– Be an active participant! Lead the kids in song, lesson, memory verse, prayer and a craft/snack time. This includes interacting with the kids, not only socializing with other leaders or volunteers. Teaching and interacting with the kids should be the priority on a Sunday morning.
-Clean up the kids church area before heading home.

Urban Park
• Assist the Kids Ministry Director in planning and setting up a booth for at least 2-4 weeks for Urban Park. This will include:
-Purchasing supplies to decorate a booth according to the weekly theme. Previous examples would include carnival week, superhero week, Christmas in July, etc.
-Purchasing prizes for the booth
-Providing information about our church and kids ministry at First Baptist Church
-Advertising for Kidopolis (possibly including a sign-up sheet or QR code for people to register their kids at the booth.
-Interacting in a friendly and approachable way with people who are at Urban Park. In other words, not just sitting behind the booth and chatting, but engaging with people as they pass by and telling them about First Baptist Church in an open and engaging manner.

Special Events – Kids’ Park Afternoon
• In previous years, interns have put on special events at Hollinger Park or Gilles Lake. These events have included team games, sports, and providing a snack/drink. This is an optional task that may be added to the internship should all other tasks be completed while additional work hours are still needed.

Kidopolis VBS
• Read through pre-purchased VBS kit in detail to ensure familiarity with each aspect of the program. Pray over the week. Pray for the volunteers, the kids who will come, and for God’s direction and hand over everything.
• Recruit and train volunteers in their roles for Kidopolis. Roles that need to be filled include, group leaders, group helpers, station leaders, station helpers, toddler room workers (for volunteers with kids) etc.
• Recruit volunteers to assist you with behind-the-scenes tasks, such as decorating, setting up the auditorium, setting up stations, preparing craft kits, preparing snack, etc.
• Plan each station according to the pre-purchased VBS kit, making any necessary tweaks to ensure that Kidopolis runs as smoothly as possible.
• Plan at least one volunteer meeting to explain in detail how each station of the VBS will run and allow for question-and-answer time. Be prepared to give an answer for your choices and be willing to take constructive criticism into account.
• The week of Kidopolis: arrive by 8am for prayer time and preparation for kids’ arrival. Serve by teaching a lesson, working as a group or station leader, and helping to direct other volunteers between 9 and 12. Clean up and reset for the next day before heading home!
• Prepare follow up for kids who attended the VBS and their parents (whether that be by email, text, mail, etc.) inviting them to attend First Baptist Church on Sunday morning.
• Prepare a thank you for all volunteers! This is extremely important. Kidopolis is a wonderful, but extremely busy and exhausting week and it is important that all volunteers feel valued for their contribution to making Kidopolis a success.

Additional Tasks
• If all other tasks are completed and there is additional time available in the internship organizational tasks can be completed. Examples of these tasks could include painting the front entrance of the church, organizing the back storage room (Narnia) or kids church craft storage shelves.
• Other additional tasks could include posting to social media, graphic design for event promotions, or taking on additional small tasks as they arise at the request of the Lead Pastor, Youth Pastor, Administrator, or Kids Ministry Director.
