MISSION STATEMENT

A loving community of devoted followers of Jesus, reaching beyond our walls in downtown Timmins.

THE 4 C’S

Introduction: If the mission of FBC is to build a loving community of devoted followers of Jesus, reaching beyond our walls in downtown Timmins, the Four C’s is the strategy to accomplish our mission. They are the proverbial wheels on the bus.

Celebrate
Celebrate is the first of the Four c’s. Celebrating is all about showing up on Sunday mornings to gather as a community to worship and celebrate what Jesus did for us on the cross. If you’re showing up regularly on Sunday’s, you’ve already got one wheel on the bus!

Community
Community is the second of the four c’s. It’s about connecting with other people at church, recognizing that Christianity isn’t a solo sport, but a team sport. We need each other to hold us accountable, to pray for us, to help us grow deeper in our faith walk. What helps us do that here at FBC is to get involved in a Community Group.

Commit
The third C is all about committing. Most importantly this means your commitment to following Jesus by trusting him as Lord and Saviour and following him into the waters of baptism. Secondly it means using the gifts God has given you to serve and help build up the church, the body of Christ. Thirdly it means becoming a member.

Coaching
Coaching is the final of the 4 C’s. Coaching is another word for discipleship or mentoring. This occurs in a number of unofficial capacities in various ministries, but in an official capacity it occurs in Radical Mentoring and Titus 2 mentoring programs that have recently started and are being fully developed. To know more about this please see either Doug or Danielle Arnold.

LEADERSHIP OVERVIEW

Lead Pastor
The Lead Pastor is the primary leader of the Church and is responsible to oversee all the staff, management, ministries, programs and finances of the Church. The Lead Pastor supervises all church staff members. Our Lead Pastor is Pastor Kevin Furtney, who has served at FBC since 2014. Get to know our Lead Pastor here.

Pastoral Team
The Pastoral Team is made up of men who are called by the Church (according to 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9) to fulfill their ministry of leading, teaching and overseeing the Church in all its ministries and to guard the church from error in doctrine and order. Our Pastoral Team is made up of our Youth & Connections Pastor, Jon Mann, and our lay pastors Doug Arnold, Tony Linton, Isaac Shelley, Aaron Bouchard, and Josh Graber. Get to know our Pastoral Team here.

Oversight Team
The Oversight Team acts as the Trustees of the Church and represents the Church and its Members in all matters of oversight through the Lead Pastor and Pastoral Team.

The duties of the Oversight Team are:

1. To meet on a regular basis to review the ministry plans and progress of the Church on behalf of the congregation.
2. To garner feedback from Members about the ministry of the Church and bring this to the Lead Pastor.
3. To maintain the Guiding Principles of the Church.
4. To hold the Lead Pastor accountable to the Guiding Principles.
5. To annually elect a chairperson and secretary from among the Oversight Team.

At FBC our Oversight Team is made up of Marilyn Heath, Dave Houston, Elijah Odigie, and Kristen McNulty. As your representatives, the Oversight Team is available for you to speak with if you have any feedback, questions or concerns. Please contact any one of the team members directly or email them at oversightteam@firstb.ca. Get to know our Oversight Team here.

Deacons
Deacons and Deaconesses are to assist the Pastors in matters pertaining to the spiritual welfare of the Church. They carry out business matters and administrative duties under the oversight of the Pastoral Team and are qualified to serve as they meet the biblical qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
